PAWS Chicago has retained GattiHR for their Head of People & Culture search, located in Chicago, IL. J.L. Baker and Jessica Bukovac will lead this search.

PAWS Chicago, the largest no-kill animal shelter in the Midwest, is dedicated to building No Kill communities–starting with a No Kill Chicago– where all healthy and treatable pets are saved. Since its founding in 1997, the number of homeless dogs and cats killed annually in Chicago has dropped by 91 percent. But with nearly 10,000 homeless pets still dying in the city each year, there is more important work to be done. PAWS performs more than 15,000 free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries per year to decrease the number of animals that end up in shelters and are in danger of being euthanized. PAWS also finds new loving families for nearly 6,000 homeless animals each year through our two adoption centers as well as numerous off-site events.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of People & Culture will play a crucial role in building the human capital strategies and tactics the Organization needs to achieve its goals. The organization’s senior leaders are committed to maintaining and further developing a long-term human capital plan that ensures the organization is building a great place to work for its valued employees and volunteers. This HR Leader will be a visionary and pragmatic leader, inspired by a passion for building, growing, and achieving, while managing the tactical activities that allow employees to be successful in their jobs.

The Head of People & Culture will provide leadership, vision, development, and overall management of all HR activities and staff, the organization’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, learning and talent development efforts, and reinforcing the organization’s culture, values, and mission through the design and delivery of exceptional programs and services. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader, focusing the human resource function to attract,
motivate, and retain the most qualified talent available and provide optimal service internally.
